I really like these portraits by photographer Stefan Falke. That we can observe the artist at home intrigues me – In some way the art inhabiting the space reflects both the artist and his or her environment simultaneosly.

It has always interested me how an artist’s personality is somehow projected onto the space they create in. Check out more of Stefan’s work on his Behance profile here

Not a new film by any means; but released in 2007 Werner Herzog’s documentry – ‘Encounters at the End of the World’ about Antartica certainly captures the imagination.

Herzog has crafted this masterful film; which is less about “fluffy penguins” but is exploring the “dreams of the people and the landscape” (his own words).

As well as interviews from the team of colourful characters who reside at Mcmurdo station (a happy group of ‘professional drifters’); I especially love this sequence about seal sounds under the ice – the sound is mesmerising. I stumbled across the work of Argentinean artist Alberto González Vivo whilst researching production painting with Acrylics for a recent project. I think the work featured here speaks for itself but I’ve included a quote from his page at Saatchi online, more of Alberto’s work can be found here

His work ranges from geometric abstraction and Op Art and is influenced by his research on the production of artists Luis Tomasello, Julio Le Parc, Victor Vasarely, Martha Boto Eduardo Moisset of Espanés, generative geometry artist and creator of the Centre for Plastic Mathematical Research of Argentina.

Lately I have been loving the work of american portrait photographer William George Wadman; examples from his “Drabbles” collection are especially striking.

I think the way he captures ‘character’ both figurative and fictional in his shots is great. He has a really inventive use of perspective and also pays due credence to his subject’s environment. Please see below for more examples of his stunning work as well as here

I’m really enjoying the search for great Illustrators at the moment; including those whose style is in keeping with my own appreciation of graphic novels. The craftsmanship, dedication and imagination never ceases to amaze. Check out some of this work from fantastic young artist Krystian Garstkowiak (one to watch), you can find more of his illustrations here

This animation was adapted from a talk given at the RSA by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA’s Benjamin Franklin award. Artist Theo Jansen sheds light on the amazingly lifelike kinetic sculptures (the Strandbeest) which he builds from plastic tubes and lemonade bottles. His creatures are designed to move — and even survive — on their own, Wow!.
