Werner Herzog | Encounters at the End of the World
Seal Sounds from Beneath the Ice…
Not a new film by any means; but released in 2007 Werner Herzog’s documentry – ‘Encounters at the End of the World’ about Antartica certainly captures the imagination.
Herzog has crafted this masterful film; which is less about “fluffy penguins” but is exploring the “dreams of the people and the landscape” (his own words).
As well as interviews from the team of colourful characters who reside at Mcmurdo station (a happy group of ‘professional drifters’); I especially love this sequence about seal sounds under the ice – the sound is mesmerising. The Marvelous Sir Ken Robinson…
This animation was adapted from a talk given at the RSA by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA’s Benjamin Franklin award. For me this remains one of the most powerful shorts in the RSA animate series. For more information on Sir Ken’s work click here
